You really need to move on. GalCiv2 is the way to go now. If you want something just like MOO I, but bigger and better, and you thought MOO III was unbelievably misguided, I suggest trying Galactic Civilizations. Very much like MOO I, but with a lot more depth. Highly recommended. They have a great forum supporting the game, the developers are making regualr updates, and you get buy/download it on-line. If MOO 2-3 had been made the way it should have it would be GalCiv2.
For years the original Master Of Orion was my favorite computer game. There's something about it that is so addictive. Even with all of the new games out now, I still found myself playing it regularly 15 years after it came out. MOO II just wasn't as good. I tried really hard to like it because it was prettier and had more features, but somehow they lost the part I really liked. MOO III was a mish-mash of good ideas that came together very, very badly.
Okay, here are links to the game. I have two files here. One has all the individual disks, and the other is just the whole game in one zip file. WARNING: You may get errors telling you that you don't have enough memory of some sort. Typically you'll have to edit your config.sys to fix this. This is a DOS game. They did things differently back then. To fix the problem you should have this in your config.sys file:
-
DEVICEHIGH=C:\windows\himem.sys
DEVICEHIGH=C:\windows\emm386.exe RAM
dos=high,umb
